Frequently asked questions

  • There are many ways to create rejuvenated look.

As an initial step, many first-time clients opt for treatment with botulinum toxin (conventionally known as “Botox”) to minimize the appearance of their facial wrinkles. Botulinum toxin can smooth fine lines as well as moderate to severe facial wrinkles. It can also be used to treat gummy smiles, provide facial slimming, improve migraines, get rid of “tech neck,” and even give a sense of a fuller upper lip without the use of dermal fillers. There is no downtime and botulinum toxin injection is a very low-risk procedure.

Some clients also struggle with a great deal of volume loss due to the aging process. If you have hollowness, drooping, or jowling around the mouth, dermal fillers could also be the right choice for you. Dermal fillers can also be used to create a “snatched jawline,” and fuller, more shapely lips. Dermal fillers are minimally invasive, but can cause temporary swelling and/or bruising.

For some clients, laser treatments are the right choice for refreshing their skin without the use of any injectables or invasive procedures at all.

However, every client is unique and there is no one-size-fits-all treatment plan that will work for everyone. At Revive Beauty, we pride ourselves on giving you just what you need to look and feel like the best version of yourself. We will discuss your concerns and preferences, provide an honest assessment of your needs, and develop a treatment plan tailored to you. • “Botox” is the conventional name for botulinum toxin, which is an injectable neuromodulator used to improve the appearance of wrinkles. Botulinum toxin blocks the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine into the synapse between the nerve and the muscle, so that the nerve can no longer instruct the muscle to move. This leads to muscle relaxation, which reduces the appearance of existing lines and helps prevent the formation of new wrinkles.

It is typically used to combat "frown lines" (or “11’s”) between the brows, "crow's feet" around the eyes, and forehead lines. However, strategic placement of botulinum toxin can also be used to improve a variety of other areas, including: bunny lines, wolf lines, nasal flaring, drooping corners of the mouth, or dimpling of the chin (“orange peel chin”).

It can also be used in the masseter (jaw) muscles to slim the face and reduce migraines caused by bruxism (teeth grinding); or in the trapezius muscles of the neck to create “swan neck.”

There are a number of brands of botulinum toxin currently available, including Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin.

  • Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected under the skin to create more volume. They are usually made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally found in the body. As we age, we lose volume and elasticity. Dermal fillers help treat drooping and hollowness caused by this aging process.

There are a multitude of different uses for dermal fillers. The most commonly treated areas are the lips (lip augmentation), the cheeks (cheek augmentation), frown lines, marionette lines and the jawline.

Depending on the area treated, dermal fillers can last from 6 months to 1 year.

It is common to space out treatment with dermal fillers over multiple appointments to achieve the desired volume. This reduces the risk of overfilling, which can result in a “puffy” and overdone appearance. In addition, certain areas are not safe to over-treat due to risk of complications.

  • Yes, absolutely! Men, just like women, want to look refreshed and more youthful. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures were performed on men in 2018, representing a 29% increase since 2000. That number has skyrocketed post-covid. In terms of injectables such as dermal fillers and Botox, in recent years most plastic surgeons estimate that 20% of their clientele for these therapies are men.

Sometimes referred to as “bro-tox” or “boy-tox,” botulinum toxin in male clients is strategically placed to avoid overly freezing the face and to avoid de-masculinization.

Although the aging process generally affects men more slowly than women, men also eventually lose volume and elasticity with age. To replace that lost volume, men are also opting for dermal fillers. The most common areas treated in men are the chin, cheeks and jawline. Treating the jawline with dermal filler is an easy way to create a more masculine, balanced look.

Numbing cream is applied to the treated areas to minimize discomfort during the treatment. Length of treatment will vary depending on your needs, but most appointments last between 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Botox. On average, botulinum toxin begins to take effect 5-7 days post-treatment, with the full effect in place by day 14. Results typically last 3 months but will vary from person to person. For maintenance and to prevent the development of new wrinkles, we recommend treatment every 3-4 months.

Dermal filIers. If you are receiving dermal fillers for the first time or in a new area, you may require multiple appointments to build up to the desired volume. Results usually lasts 6 months to one year. Routine maintenance is typically required every 6 months.

Mild swelling, tenderness, and bruising may occur at the injection site immediately after treatment. All of these results are normal and typically resolve on their own within a few days.

We recommend scheduling your treatment 2-4 weeks before any special events to allow time for any swelling or bruising to subside and to touch-up if needed.

  • Botulinum toxin.

Botulinum toxin or “Botox” injections don’t require any recovery time. You can resume your normal activities right away, with the following restrictions:

    • No exercise for 24 hours

    • No lying flat for 4 hours post-treatment, to prevent spread of the botulinum toxin into unwanted areas

    • Avoid touching, rubbing, or physical pressure on the treated area for at least 24 hours

    • No alcohol for 24 hours before and after treatment due to higher risk of bruising

    • No direct sunlight for 24-48 hours

    • Avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours

    • Avoid other facial treatment for at least 24 hours and up to 3 days, as it takes time for Botox to settle into the muscle.

    Dermal fillers.

Bruising, tenderness and swelling are common for 1-3 days post-procedure. Swelling will completely resolve in approximately 2 weeks. Schedule dermal filler treatments 2-3 weeks before any special events to allow time for bruising and swelling to resolve.

Avoid exercise and extreme heat (direct sunlight, sauna, tanning bed) for 24-48 hours.

To minimize bruising after fillers, we recommend:

    • No alcohol for 24 hours before and after treatment

    • No NSAIDs (e.g., Advil), fish oil, multivitamins, or vitamin E for a week before treatment

    • Avoid filler injections during or right before the start of a menstrual period

  • Not all dermal fillers are dissolvable! However, at Revive Beauty we offer hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, which are dissolvable and typically last for 6 months to one year. We can also dissolve your old filler to provide a clean slate for your desired look.

  • A lip flip uses botulinum toxin to relax the muscle that normally pulls the upper lip into the mouth when you smile, causing the upper lip to roll outward. This gives a sense of increased volume in the upper lip, without the use of dermal filler. This is a great option for clients who are interested in increasing lip volume, but are not ready to commit to lip fillers. It is a quick procedure and can be added on to your routine Botox appointment.
